This Valentine’s Day heart craft idea never disappoints. Similar to making these heart-shaped birdseed ornaments, the hardest part of this Valentine’s Day activity is cleaning up the mess afterward. It truly keeps the kids entertained and amazed by how the shaving cream. Remember messy = fun!
How to make a Valentine’s Day Heart Craft in Minutes
This craft is super simple and perfect for preschoolers!
Supplies needed for heart craft for kids
- Shaving Foam
- Aluminum Pan
- Acrylic Paint (various colors)
- White Cardstock to cut and trace heart shapes or pre-cut white hearts (I found some at Hobby Lobby)
- Toothpick or skewer
- scraper or old gift card/credit card
Instructions for making the Shaving Foam Marbled Hearts
- First, get your apron on or wear your “craft clothes”. Acrylic paint is harder to come off if you do get it on your clothes.
- Next, spray shaving cream on the bottom of the pan and spread evenly to cover. Have the kids help spread the foam. It’s great for their fine motor skills.
- Pour various drops of acrylic paint on shaving cream. Repeat with each color. I used four different colors (yellow, pink, purple, and red to match the Valentine’s Day theme). This is another step preschoolers and young children can help with.
- Next, using a toothpick or skewer spread it through the shaving cream drawing lines both sideways and up and down. This will give the shaving cream a marbled look. Freestyle it and see what you can come up with.
- Then, place the heart shape with the white side facing the shaving cream. Hold it on the shaving cream pressing down.
- Peel the heart back to reveal the artwork. Place the heart on another pan with newspaper or wax paper beneath it.
- Tip: The more hearts you make, the more the white foam will come through making the marbled look pop, even more, .
- Let hearts dry for a few minutes. Using a scraper or a used gift card, scrape the excess shaving cream off onto the newspaper. Be careful not to take it all off or it will mix and not make the marbled look. (I made that mistake the first time)
- Finally, allow time for the hearts to dry. Once dry, feast your eyes on your complete marbled artwork!

Hang the hearts on a string using clothespins or frame them as wall art. Let your creativity soar!
